The AIWF Foundation sponsors several scholarships.

The French Culinary Institute, Italian Culinary Academy, and Andre Soltner scholarships are administered by the International Culinary Center. 2010 UPDATE

In an effort inspired and supported by the Julia Child Foundation, the AIWF Foundation has created two new scholarships for 2010.

AIWF Foundation Scholarship for Food Writing – Greenbrier Professional Food Writers Symposium
This 2010 AIWF Foundation Scholarship for Food Writing is valued at $2,500.00. This award is presented in honor of Julia Child, a long-time attendee of the Symposium. The awardee must be a knowledgeable cook whose writing voice empowers the reader in the kitchen. The awardee will be chosen for demonstrated clarity and assuredness in communicating the processes and the joy of cooking. The award covers all costs of attending the Symposium, including lodging, and may be used toward transportation costs.  Note: In addition to writing samples, applicants for this scholarship must submit a maximum one-page CV or biography.)

AIWF Foundation Scholarship for Recipe Writing – Greenbrier Professional Food Writers Symposium
This 2010 AIWF Foundation Scholarship for Recipe Writing is valued at $2,500.00. This award is presented in honor of Julia Child, a long-time attendee of the Symposium. The awardee will be chosen for demonstrated excellence in writing all aspects of recipes, including techniques, headnotes, and ingredient explanations. Recipe copy must bring the reader along with clarity, serving to not only provide the tools to accomplish recipes but also to teach and empower readers through an understanding of how and why. The award covers all costs of attending the Symposium, including lodging, and may be used toward transportation costs.

Congratulations to Janet Zimmerman, the recipient of the 2010 AIWF Foundation Scholarship for Recipe Writing.  $2,500.

The Andre Soltner Scholarship.

The AIWF Foundation is pleased to announce that beginning in 2010 it will now act as the permanent financial home for the Andre Soltner Scholarship, a $2,500 award granted periodically by The French Culinary Institute.  For thirty-four years Soltner was chef/owner of Lutece; a New York City four-star restaurant considered the paragon of classic French cuisine.  For 23 consecutive years, from 1971 to 1994, Lutece, under his leadership, held five stars in the Mobil Guide and the top four-star rating of the New York Times.  The next Soltner Scholarship is expected to be awarded in 2011.

Congratulations to Eileen Martin, the recipient of the 2009 Michael Jackson Education Fund / ADI Distilling Internship.  Eileen received a $500 stipend and $1,495 for materials used in the production of whiskey mash.
